Saying Something
04:16
|
|||
Cream colored ashes
The day passes
We say goodbye once again
Knowing sure collapses
And knowing that flashes
I forget and learn again
I know you are trying to be a friend
I know you are trying to be a friend
I hear you
Knowing what to say isn’t easy
Words feel like treacherous footing
Slippery rocks
But believe me
Saying anything might be crucial
Stepping stones still hold together intervals
Time acquired language
It translated quiet things
After the fact
Into something louder
Notes in the calendar
Now appear some sacred map
To time itself and what was planned ahead
To time, what I could have said
Maria, I might never know what I’d tell you
Is it that questions mean more than their answers could?
Let me tell you
The beach isn’t empty tonight
The living are shooting the breeze in the moonlight
Saying something isn’t easy
Say something to me
Saying something isn’t easy
Say something to me

Spring Bug
03:27
|
|||
Bitten by a spring bug
It gets me every time
This year I'm on my own
And the buzz is all mine
When it starts getting fun
Its poison makes my blood rush
Past lives walk by and I blush
They ask to sit
I try leaving fast enough to outrun them
Remember that's a bad plan
Their thing, not mine
I can't decline
Stay just a little longer
Don't be none the wiser
And hey, as long as you don't keep me up at night
It's easy
You can have one on me
Tell me that's right:
It all counts
The evasions
Every procrastination
After all
Run down the same streets
I did last time it bit me
And time would act all funny
And I'd stand so still
For all its pauses
Time will buckle down and pass me
This spring's already a memory
And I should leave
Until I go
Stay just a little longer
So that I could never
Say I could live without you
Now all that I want to do is within you

||||

||||
You ask me what I'm thinking of
Immediately know because
I laugh and the way that I laugh means
It's something about you
The shimmer this days has
River to swim through
It's true, it's kind of funny
Take my hand and run me to the shore
Dune grass cool wind blows
I know what I didn't know before
Press the palm-size rock to your mouth
Its brighter colors pour right out
The view in the morning rain
Welcomes us like no painting
Bright green, vibrant gray and everything pulsating
Four hundred million years opened wide and no waiting
Rocks you keep in your car door
Have traveled through far more than your life
Windows down, you sing along
I don't think I've heard this song before
Windows down, you sing along
I don't think I've heard this song before

Drawbridge
03:27
|
|||
Coming to the drawbridge
And by drawbridge
I mean you
Taking me right into my past
Both fellow walker and path
How long since you saw her last?
We’ve gone by
I mean last time you saw me
I called you Tommy
And who was I
When I could only guess about loss?
Where it takes you when
You can no longer call
Puddles into the stream
Into the river, ocean between
Live water under our feet
Let me see
Who in the world
You could now be
Let me walk you through
This afternoon
Where will we begin?
I’m coming to the town
That you now live in
Admittedly oblivious to
The fact that the drawbridge
Now remains pulled
Puddles into the stream
Into the river
Didn’t puzzle me
When we said later
What did you mean?
I wanted to know who we have been
So I might know how far I’ve flown

Roadflower
03:22
|
|||
Wink at me, roadflower
First and last
I’ll be good, I’ll see
And pick you from the pack
You’ve been so good
To me, so sweet
The hill you’re on collides
With the valley that lies behind
Nod now, roadflower
You love someone
Long, rushed, soft, tempered
All at once
Glowing baby cheeks
Smile up at me
Smiling at everyone
You’ll age beautifully
Don’t wait for me
I’m late for love but having fun
You’ll be
Beautiful to me
You’ve been so good
To me, so sweet

The Animals
03:16
|
|||
We went up the mountain
Last Friday night
All of the animals
Were out in plain sight
They didn’t bid us to follow them
They didn’t hiss us away
No, to us, my love
They had nothing to say
And while you saw the tremor
And you saw the wings
You saw the glistening white teeth
I was busy with things in my mind
Things that I tend to
As though to survive
I’m not proud I was asking you
Do you dim yourself down?
Do you say terrible things about me
When I’m not around?
You sweep a hand through the clearing
Say can’t you see?
There ain’t anything threatening you here
Least of all me
Put your life on the easel
There, right next to mine
We ain’t living like weasels
We don’t have the time, never will
All of the creatures made for the dark woods
Whooping, that’s what I heard
What if the easel fell over
And the paintings were burned to a crisp?
Nights like these I can’t quite tell
A fear from a wish

Who I Sound Like
03:22
|
|||
Fear that I am frozen here
I lay down and close my eyes
If I were to open, clear
See you standing in the light
It wouldn’t matter who I’d sound like
Whether or not I knew what to say
Whether I could ask for what I need
I just want to talk to you today
Here I’m welcome
Here I am new
With my questions
Learning through
Still and bright blue days
Smudging the nights
I think I’ll stay
Paint the walls white
Colors dance behind my eyelids
Trips you said that you would like to take
Not vacations, something different
Your life didn’t give you many breaks
Wouldn’t matter who I sound like
Whether or not I know what to say
Whether I can ask for what I need
I just want to talk to you
I just want to talk to you
I just want to talk to you today

Swimmer
03:33
|
|||
The sun has hardly warmed the water
When it crashes on the sand
You hoped it would be warmer, you say
Pulling out your hand
The warmer water gets
The more the oceans expand
You told me first and then
I didn't really understand
If I could turn back time
I would and I’d be good
I would always be kind
To you, to you
You say look at this the world still spins
And beauty will never go
It was there before, will be there more when there’s no I to behold
How suitable, you the buoy
Your arms like silver fins
Your head afloat the golden glow
Of waves crashing in
If I could make this last
Take more of this moment
Trade in some of my past
You swim, you swim
You in it all and letting it all in

Night Soft As Silk
03:53
|
|||
Night’s soft as silk
Say you could rip and pocket part of it
And always dress to kill
Kitchen table, cupboard talk we spill
We could go on ‘til
Something made a tear for real
And night pouring in
We can really sit together
Everything is left to say
The shyer part of me, the maker
Come on and make her brave
Pour me another drink
Midnight hours are gone so fast
I’ll tell you what I really think
Of your lover if you ask
He’s acting like a child
Moon moves along
There had been no music playing
But the sound not unlike song
Of the deep, dark night on the other side
The room’s reflected on
The window you stand up to open
Night pouring in
World’s drunk on us, my darling
Everything is left to say
Rarest part of you is open
I’ve been hoping days
I’ll pour you another drink
Early morning hours are wild
Tell me everything you think
Though words can be so mild

Strawberry Moon
04:38
|
|||
Midnight in June
Moonlight sweeping the room
Song of the loon
Alone here and talking to you
And tonight I can’t sleep
A thought keeps on wrestling with me
I want to play with it
Cradle it
Say
Love come to me
If I am ready
To surrender
I have worked hard
Protecting my heart
And I am tired
Give me a clue
Won’t you send me a tune?
Could it be
Things have been changing for me?
And tonight I’ll get no rest
A thought is sitting on my chest
I want to play with it
Cradle it
Say
I can tell you
No strawberry moon
Has ever been wasted
If it brought us here
And berries, my dear
They ant to be tasted
